Diary of a trip to England on the SS Lusitania, by a man who had emigrated to Australia in 1854. He was on voyage to meet his wife and daughter who were visiting relatives, and he returned with them on the SS Potosi. This detailed diary describes weather; birds and fish; food, games and entertainment; wind and sails; religious services; daily latitude and longitude; distance travelled; welfare of his parrots; sleeping on deck; airing matresses on deck; prickly heat; the Suez canal; arrival in Plymouth; fogs at Dover; ; return to Melbourne; storms; animals being killed on board; outbreak of measles; arrival on the S.A. Coast; seeing bushfires on the Adelaide Hills; flying the yellow flag; seeing sharks. After the diary is an insert briefly describing the family's life back in Melbourne; children and grandchildren.
